The view of the Trent Valley that I took from Nottingham Castle in 2011 looking towards cooling towers of the Ratcliffe-on-Soar coal fired power station. The beautiful colour of the sky is caused by a combination of ice crystals and particulate pollution. I was born in Sheffield but I think I am more of the North Midland Plain. My mother's family were farmers in the Gleadless Valley south of Sheffield, their antecedents hailing from Bramhall near Stockport, Lancashire and Newbolt now absorbed by Chesterfield, North Derbyshire. My father was born in Woolwich from where his mother hailed. His father was a metallurgist from South Wales. My Father's family family moved to Sheffield around 1930.
